TCU Moderator: Welcome to today's online chat with TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte. |
| Frog Daddy Granbury: During the past five years, I have enjoyed expressing my "TCU Spirit," by greeting fellow Frog Fans through a character I have identified myself as "Frog Daddy." Many fans have come accustomed to my presence that encourages Frog fans to become more vocal in cheering for our team and as Coach Gary P. says "gain the home crowd advantage." However, last football season, I was restricted by security not to freely go around various sections of A. Carter Stadium, because my season ticket seats were not in areas I wished to cheer and get the crowd "amped up." |
Chris Del Conte: I do love your 70s get up! You can walk around the concourses and SRO areas. In order to gain access to certain sections, you must have a ticket for that area. Keep Amping Up your section! |
| TB Grand Prairie Texas: I have football parking passes for each game in LOT 13. As you know that lot shrunk due to the new baseball complex. I am glad for the team but I am concerned about the possible lack of tailgating and psrking spaces. Please comment on it. |
Chris Del Conte: I've been informed that no parking spaces will be impacted for Saturday's season opener. |
| Pat (Arlington TX): Last year at the rain-delayed Texas game, I was so jealous of all the Texas fans with their burnt orange rain ponchos. Is there any hope of TCU selling purple ponchos at the stadium? You'll sell thousands of them when it rains. 2nd question: LT challenged the whole TCU football team to the ice bucket. Are they going to do it? (I hope not until after this Sat.) |
Chris Del Conte: Love the idea of the purple ponchos. We'll check with our merchandise vendor for availability. I will defer to Coach Patterson on the LT challenge. |
| Jerry (San Antonio): Are there restrictions on the size or shape of the water bottles we are permitted to take into the stadium for football games this year? |
Chris Del Conte: The intent is not to bring a keg of water, but we do not have any restrictions on the size of the bottle. The only restriction is that it's one unopened bottle per person. |
| Ft Worth Tx: Noticed a lot of tickets available for the Samford game particular in the normal visitor area in the Stadium. Would you consider a Family packet only for games not sold out for these areas only for 60.00 (4) tickets for families not able to afford normal game tickets. I realize we are least expensive in Conference. But some families where priced out 3 years ago. |
Chris Del Conte: We do have tickets available this weekend, starting as low as $20. You can order online at GoFrogs.com or call (817) 257-FROG. |
| Damon (Burleson): How can the fans of the Frogs help #AmpItUp this season at the Carter? |
Chris Del Conte: First of all, wear purple for our Purple Out. Come early, cheer loud and stay late. #AmpItUp |
| Ray: When an athlete transfers to TCU and, by NCAA Rules, must sit out a year, can that athlete practice with the team during that year? |
Chris Del Conte: The answer is yes. |
| Trevor (Fort Worth): Will there ever be TCU painted on the upper section of the football stadium like the old stadium? |
Chris Del Conte: As we've mentioned before, the current configuration does not allow for TCU on our bench backs. We are checking to see if it's a possibility for us down the road. |
| Lonnie (Fort Worth): Any plans to have some air time with College Gameday? One could argue that TCU is a co-host along with Fort Worth. |
Chris Del Conte: We'll have our cheerleaders, Showgirls and SuperFrog in attendance. |
| Freddie(Houston): Are there drawings of Amon G.Carter already drawn up if ever it were to expand to over 50k? |
Chris Del Conte: When we rebuilt Amon G. Carter Stadium, we did plan for future expansion. However, there are no current drawings. |
| The other Chris (also in Fort Worth): Since infamously referring you to "Del" in the meeting that cemented your legacy as a legend amongst TCU fans, has Deloss Dodds ever corrected himself by calling you Chris? |
Chris Del Conte: It's just "Del." |
| Clay (Glen Rose): I had heard that the Samford game was a result of former Headd Coach Pat Sullivan wanting to come back on the 20th year of one of his teams. A great story. How did that game unfold? |
Chris Del Conte: The conversation began with Jack Hesselbrock calling Pat Sullivan last spring about coming back for a game at Amon G. Carter Stadium to honor our 1994 Southwest Conference championship team. |
| Ricky (Dallas): How do you celebrate a TCU football victory? |
Chris Del Conte: It all depends on the game. I usually just go into the locker room and celebrate with our student-athletes and coaches. |
| Ted (Arlington): Does the "one bottle of water" policy include fire water? |
Chris Del Conte: No. As Bobby Boucher said in Waterboy, "Just pure H2O." |
| George (Dallas): Who is the funniest person you follow on Twitter? |
Chris Del Conte: Mark Cohen, our SID. |
| Phil (Beaverton, Oregon): Any football uniform surprises in store this fall? |
Chris Del Conte: You never know what Coach Patterson has up his sleeve. |
| Henry (Fort Worth): Is the Frog Horn ever utilized for any sport other than football? Would love to hear it go off for a soccer goal or a home run in baseball! |
Chris Del Conte: We have the Frog Horn at soccer games. It's a good idea to consider it for other sports. |
| Steve (Garland): How many of the players from the 1994 team are coming back for the game against their old coach? |
Chris Del Conte: We expect well over 50 members of the 1994 team to be in attendance this weekend. |
| Aloysius (Hot Springs): Seems to me whats lacking in the gameday experience is a Man in the Stands interview segment for video board. Where can I send my resume and multiple audition tapes? |
Chris Del Conte: I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised what we have in store for fans at Amon G. Carter Stadium this season. We're always looking for new talent. Send your resume and audition tape to Scott Kull in our marketing department. |
| Arkansas Frog, Fort Worth: Compliance question here, if a student athlete is suspended, is it an automated process or can the unsuspension process be expedited? |
Chris Del Conte: Student-athletes are treated just like any student on campus. All non-athletic suspensions are handled by the TCU Student Affairs Office. |
| Mike: You mentioned before that apparel with throwback logos were going to be made, where will they be for sale? |
Chris Del Conte: The throwback apparel will be available at local retailers who buy into the program. We're still waiting for final confirmation from those retailers and will keep you posted. |
| John: Could it be possible for the marketing team to create a spottily account and put all the songs that are played during the game on there? At times there are songs I haven't heard of and enjoyed plus would like all my workouts be like game day. #AmpItUp |
Chris Del Conte: That's a great idea. We'll check with our marketing department. |
| Warren, Fort Worth: Chris, were your ticket buy-back efforts you outlined in your previous town hall meeting successful? Hope we have more TCU fans in these prime seats this season. |
Chris Del Conte: Yes. We had over 1,000 seats become available in the lower bowl that enabled a lot of our fans to move down and be closer to the action. |
| Frank (Keller): In years past we could bring footballs/helmets to get signed at the "Meet the Frogs", why the change? |
Chris Del Conte: Like every good deed that goes unpunished, we had abuse in the past with items signed being available on the open market. In consultation with our NCAA Compliance Office, we only allowed the team posters to be signed. |
| Jeff (League City): Did the city clean up the I-20 and Hulen exit under the bridge? It looked like skid row last fall and a dumpy entrance for TCU. On the other entrance main entrance, does the entrance bridge at University and the Chisholm Trail Parkway or the rail bridge have any signage stating your entering the TCU Kingdom? It should maybe with purple accent lights at night that shoot up the under bridge tunnel like our stadium's west facade. Cool effect and it sets the tone for the visitors. Matt Rose at BNSF could make it happen with one call. |
Chris Del Conte: Our marketing folks are in constant communication with city officials, and we'll have them raise this question. |
| We're going on a Bear Hunt: TCU's invasion of Waco on October 11th should be amphibious. How about organizing a Frog Navy to set sail down the Brazos from Lake Whitney? |
Chris Del Conte: We are expecting a tremendous crowd at the Baylor game as we are the first Big 12 opponent in the new stadium. I'm not too sure, though, the Brazos River is deep enough to support the Horned Frogs Nation. |
TCU Moderator: That concludes today's chat with Chris Del Conte, who's now off to football practice. Thanks for joining us. |
