IRVING, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference has announced TCU linebacker Paul Dawson as its Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the 48-10 win at Texas.
Dawson keyed a TCU defensive effort that forced six turnovers and held the Longhorns to 12 first downs, 290 yards of offense and a 5-of-18 mark on third-down conversions. When taking away a 73-yard touchdown pass, the Horned Frogs limited the Longhorns to just 217 yards on 69 snaps (3.1 yards per play).
A senior from Dallas, Dawson totaled a team-best 10 tackles, including two for loss, with an interception and quarterback hurry. He had the solo stop on five of the Longhorns' first eight plays from scrimmage, including two for loss while adding a quarterback hurry.
Dawson is the only player nationally with at least 100 tackles (115), five sacks and four interceptions this season. He is also the only Big 12 player since 2000 to accomplish the feat.
It's the second Big 12 weekly honor for Dawson this season. He also garnered the award after TCU's win over Oklahoma.
