FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU kickoff returner Greg McCoy has been named a first-team All-American by CBSSports.com with linebacker Tank Carder receiving second-team honors.
McCoy ranks fourth nationally with his 31.6 kickoff return average. He has two touchdowns on the season, going 94 yards versus Louisiana-Monroe and 99 against UNLV. He set a TCU single-game record with 229 kickoff return yards at Baylor.
McCoy's 99-yard kickoff return against UNLV made him the first Frog since Cory Rodgers in 2005 to return two kickoffs for scores in the same season. McCoy's 99- and 94-yard touchdowns are the second- and third-longest in 11 seasons under Gary Patterson as head coach, surpassed only by Rodgers' 100-yard return at BYU in 2005.
A senior from Dallas, McCoy was named the Mountain West's Special Teams Player of the Year.
McCoy's three career kickoff returns for touchdowns are tied with LaTarence Dunbar (1999-02) for first all-time at TCU. McCoy is also one of just four Horned Frogs to have three total kick returns for a score in a career.
Carder was selected as the Mountain West's Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season.
Last year's Rose Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player, Carder has 66 tackles with 4 1/2 for loss. He's returned both his interceptions for touchdowns. His three career picks for scores place first all-time at TCU.
Carder's 224 career stops top all active TCU players and are the most by a Horned Frog since former linebackers Jason Phillips (315, 2005-08) and Robert Henson (272, 2005-08).
