DUBLIN, Ohio—TCU concluded the Jack Nicklaus Invitational Tuesday with an eighth-place finish at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Freshman Julien Brun led the Horned Frogs in the individual standings by earning a tie for fifth place.
Texas won the team championship with a 2-under-par total of 862, running away from runner-up Ohio State by 14 strokes. The Frogs finished the event +36, in front of Oklahoma State (+39), North Carolina (+49) and Texas Tech (+50).
Brun posted a third consecutive top-5 finish to open his collegiate career with an overall score of -2. He shot a 1-over-par 73 Tuesday, which was only the first above-par round of his season in nine rounds to date. The overall total fell four strokes shy of Illinois' Thomas Pietrs, who earned top individual medalist honors at -7.
Junior Daniel Jennevret jumped six spots on the leaderboard Tuesday with a final-round 75 to finish the tournament in a tie for 25th place at +9. He placed 10 spots ahead of senior Johan de Beer, who also fired a final-round 75 to tie for 35th place at +11. Sophomore Ian Phillips wrapped up the TCU scoring, shooting an 8-over 80 to finish with a share of 46th place (+18). Junior Eduardo Perez, playing in his first varsity tournament as a Frog, was 59th (+34).
TCU returns to the links Oct. 25-28, when it plays its final fall tournament at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windmere, Fla.
