FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU sophomore Haley Jacobi sat down to share her thoughts on the upcoming 20010-11 season and much more.
Jacobi, a Scottsdale, Ariz., native, ended her freshman season with a 5-4 record in Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. At the 2010 Varsity Equestrian National Championship in Waco, Jacobi was victorious in Equitation on the Flat against Baylor. She finished her season with a draw against Oklahoma State at nationals.
What have you been doing this summer?
This summer I have been riding a lot and traveling to shows. I have also traveled with my family in support of my younger brother's baseball team.
How do you think the 2009-10 Equestrian season went?
I believe that the 2009-10 season went very well. Even though I was just a freshman, I felt like we really bonded and worked together towards our common goal of getting to the 2010 Varsity Equestrian National Championships.
How do you feel this season will go?
I think that this season will be stronger than ever. We all are still so proud of what we accomplished last year that it will definitely fuel us for the upcoming season.
What do you like most about Equestrian?
I like the group of girls the most because they become your family. Since this sport is predominantly individual, it is such a unique opportunity to have a group of people that enjoy the same thing you do and want to work with you to accomplish a common goal. The love and support you get from these girls is irreplaceable.
If you could choose another sport what would you play?
I do not know if I could choose another sport to play. I have been riding my entire life and would not give it up for anything. I do absolutely love baseball, so softball would probably be my next choice.
What is your favorite thing about TCU?
I would have to say that the people are my favorite part about TCU. Everyone is just so nice and willing to go out of his or her way to be courteous. When I first came and toured here, everyone was willing to wait the extra few seconds just to hold the door for you. It was so reassuring to me and I just knew that I wanted to surround myself with people like that.
If you were stranded on an island what two things would you need?
I would need my mom and my laptop if I were stranded.
What is your favorite movie?
I am a total movie buff so it is hard to narrow it down to just one favorite, but I would have to say The Sound of Music is one of my all-time favorite movies. I remember watching it when I was younger and getting permission to stay up extra late so I could finish it because it was so long. Every time it is on TV, I try to watch it. The music just makes me so happy and it is just a little piece of my childhood that I get to re-live when it comes on.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
If I could go anywhere in the world I would probable go to The Netherlands. I absolutely love it there. My family breeds Dutch horses and we have visited Holland multiple times. Every time I go there I can picture myself living there. Everyone is so nice and genuine and the countryside is gorgeous.
What is your favorite singer or song to listen to right now?
My favorite summer song right now is Smile by Uncle Kracker.
