
Rifle Continues To Fire On All Cylinders

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU rifle team continued their dominating ways Saturday, handing UTEP a 4,663-4,599 defeat in El Paso. The victory for the Frogs was their eighth straight. Sarah Scherer and Sarah Beard returned to action and finished first and second, respectively, in the match.Scherer totaled an aggregate score of 1,173 to take home top honors in the match. She fired a 593 in air rifle and a 580 in smallbore. Beards tally of 583 in smallbore was the top score and combined with her 588 in air rifle, she finished second in the match with an aggregate of 1,171.
The Frog shooters dominated smallbore, defeating the Miners 2,315-2,277 to claim the early match lead. Along with Scherer and Beard's strong marks, Erin Lorenzen fired a 580 and Caitlin Morrissey a 572 to help lead the Frog attack.
A solid performance in air rifle locked up the Frogs victory as they posted a 2,348-2,322 win. Lorenzen finished fifth in the event, firing a 587. Simone Riford rounded out the four counters for TCU with a score of 580.
Shooting, but not factoring into the final score was Emily Paper and Riford in smallbore. Paper fired a 575, while Riford shot a 579. Morrissey also shot air rifle, but did not factor into the team score. She posted a solid mark of 581 in the event.
The Frogs return home next weekend to host the NCAA Qualifier. Scores from that meet will factor into who makes the field of eight for the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Fort Worth March 12-13.
