
No. 7 Equestrian Takes Down Skyhawks Saturday

MANSFIELD, Texas - Ashley Aikman and Carrie von Uhlit both collected MVP honors on Saturday as No. 7 TCU upended Tennessee-Martin in frigid weather conditions, 13-7."Its always interesting to have a game like today in such cold weather. It really shows who has good concentration and skills," said head coach Gary Reynolds. "I appreciate having the quality of riders that we have. I thought UT-Martin did a really a good job coming in here. We are off to a good start this year and it was a long cold day, but the girls did a really good job and I am really proud of them."
The Horned Frogs dominated the Western side on Saturday afternoon at Fieldstone Park, winning 8-2. TCU outscored the Skyhawks overall in Western, 718-633.5.
For the match, the Frogs outscored the Skyhawks, 1358-1352.5.
In Horsemanship, Aikman downed Heidi Grimm, 75-69.5, to collect MVP accolades. Sophomore Courtney Chown also collected a point for the Frogs, winning 74-70.5 over Stephanie Sanders. Lyndsi Hardin and Kirstie Frydenlund rounded out the TCU scoring upending Michelle Chullock and Hannah Derks, respectively.
Von Uhlit opened the spring campaign, downing Derks, 70.5-68.5, in Reining. By defeating Derks, von Uhlit, who is ranked No. 3 in the nation in Reining, collected her fifth MVP honor this season. Kelsey Huffman, who hails from Norco, Calif., was also victorious on Saturday, defeating Grimm. Freshman Kolby Simonson and senior Ashton Mickunas also claimed victories in Reining.
The Frogs claimed a 3-2 victory over UT-Martin in Equitation over Fences. Sophomore Taylor Frederick led TCU in the event, winning 80-78 over Caroline Cramer. Lauren Quiroz and Callie Selchau also added victories, downing Katie Miranda and Kara Bergenty, respectively.
In Equitation on the Flat, freshman Haley Jacobi, who competed in her first meet this season, put the Frogs on the board defeating Cramer, 65-63. Juli Skobel, a Houston native, tallied the Purple and White's other point in the event, downing Bergenty.
TCU will next be in action against Texas A&M on Feb. 5 at the Fort Worth Stock Show. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Fort Worth.
