
Horned Frogs Down Georgia, 11-9

BISHOP, Ga. - The TCU equestrian program won both Western competitions on Saturday to upend defending National Champion Georgia 11-9 at the Georgia Equestrian Complex.Overall, the Horned Frogs dropped the Bulldogs, who had not lost a home dual in its history before Saturday, 7-3 in Western events, including a 4-1 advantage in Horsemanship. The Frogs collected two MVP honors on Saturday as well.
"It was a terrific win against a great Georgia team today," said head coach Gary Reynolds. "The Hunt Seat team was spectacular, while the Western squad took care of business today, which is great."
In Horsemanship, sophomore Courtney Chown collected MVP honors in the event, defeating Lauren Love, 76-70. Carrie von Uhlit and Kelsey Huffman were also victorious for the Frogs, winning 75-73 and 75-74.5, respectively. Finally, Ashley Aikman, a junior from Mission, closed out the TCU scoring, winning by one point over Maria Salazar, 68-67.
Von Uhlit led the Purple and White in Reining, narrowly downing Sarah Locker, 66.5-66, to earn MVP accolades for the event. Huffman continued her impressive showing at the Georgia Equestrian Complex with another victory in Reining, while senior Ashton Mickunas tallied the final point for the Frogs, beating Melanie Galbraith, 68-66.
In Equitation over Fences, TCU had a solid showing inside the ring, falling by only one point to the Bulldogs, 3-2. Victoria Lee and Taylor Frederick both collected points for the Frogs, while junior Juli Skobel just missed recording a point, dropping a 74-73 decision to Michelle Morris. Finally, Tassie Munroe, a Valley Mills native, was also unable to score a point, barely falling to Kacy Jenkins, 80-79.
Junior Milana Trimino posted a victory over Nina Pola in Equitation on the Flat, 78-75, while Jessica Hagen also tallied a point for the Frogs, upending Katie Hagerty, 79.5-77.5.
With the victory, the Horned Frogs moved to 2-2-0 on the year, while Georgia, who has won four Varsity Equestrian National Championships, dropped to 0-1-0 on the season.
TCU will close its road swing on Sunday at South Carolina. Start time for the match is set for 9 a.m. CT.
