
Equestrian Cruises To Victory Over RedHawks

WACO, Texas - TCU breezed to a 14-1 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Friday night at the Willis Invitational.The Horned Frogs, who battled rainy weather conditions in Waco, outscored the RedHawks, 1186.5-1079, to move to 1-0 on the season. Miami (Ohio) dropped to 0-1 on the year. Overall, TCU swept all four MVP honors Friday night at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. Freshmen Kolby Simonson and Lexie Estrada both claimed victories in their first collegiate outing.
"We strive for performances like this," said head coach Gary Reynolds. "We didn't make any mistakes, which is great. Really, everyone had excellent performances tonight. We really rode well in our first time out and I was really proud of our freshmen in their first outing. We are looking forward to our game tomorrow against Baylor. It has been a nice little rivalry the past couple of years."
The Frogs opened the day sweeping the reining competition inside the Willis Family Equestrian Center. Senior Carrie von Uhlit, the 2009 National Champion in reining, dropped the RedHawks' Leslie Coen, 70.5-66. The win by von Uhlit, who captured MVP honors for the event, was her 67th overall victory of her career.
Courtney Chown, a sophomore from Pilot Point, was also victorious on Friday, upending Alexa Mainella, 66.5-64. Junior Kelsey Huffman and Simonson tallied the final two points for the Purple and White, winning 68-60.5 and 65.5-57, respectively.
In horsemanship, Ashley Aikman, a Mission native, captured MVP honors, downing Carly Bowman, 75-67. Sophomore Lyndsi Hardin and Estrada also claimed victories against the RedHawks, while von Uhlit continued her impressive showing, defeating Mallory Hill, 74.5-66.
Jessica Hagen and Lauren Quiroz led the Frogs in equitation and equitation over fences, respectively, collecting MVP honors. In equitation, Hagen upended Jessica Yeager, 94-74. Her score of 94 points set a new school record. Junior's Milana Trimino and Juli Skobel also claimed victories on Friday in equitation.
Quiroz downed Alex Hollern, 77-61, to claim the victory, while Taylor Frederick tallied a point for the Frogs, defeating Jamie Yeager, 75-59. Finally, Tassie Munroe, a junior from Valley Mills, won 78-72 over Yeager.
TCU will continue action tomorrow in Waco with a contest against host school Baylor.
