NEW YORK -- TCU's Jake Kirkpatrick is one of six finalists for the Rimington Trophy, presented to the outstanding center in college football.
Kirkpatrick, who can dunk a basketball, did not play football until his senior year at Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Texas.
A 6-foot-3, 305-pound junior, Kirkpatrick sets the blocking scheme on every play for the Horned Frogs. He anchors a line that has paved the way for No. 4 TCU (12-0) to rank in the top-five nationally in scoring offense (40.7 points per game), total offense (469.1 yards per game) and rushing offense (256.5 yards per game).
TCU is tied for seventh in the nation in allowing only 10 sacks (0.83 per game) this year.
The Horned Frogs have set single-season school records for points scored (488) and total offense (5,629 yards).
