
TCU Rifle Hands Kentucky First Defeat

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Rifle team handed Kentucky its first defeat of the season with a 4,657-4,642 victory Saturday afternoon. TCU's aggregate score set a new school record as did the air rifle score of 2,352.Sarah Scherer again led the squad with a 594 in air rifle. 56 of her 60 shots were perfect 10's. She finished with a combined score of 1,172 after firing a 578 in smallbore. In total, the Frogs posted seven of the top-10 overall finishers in the match.
The Horned Frogs took a six-point victory (2,352-2,346) in air rifle over Kentucky and claimed two of the top three spots. Caitlin Morrissey shot a personal-best with a 588 to finish third. Helping the Frogs to victory in the even were Erin Lorenzen and Simone Riford, who each shot a 585.
In smallbore, TCU took home the top three spots, defeating Kentucky 2,305-2,296. Emily Paper took home top honors as she tied her personal best with a 582. Sarah Beard's personal best of 581 was second. Mattie Brogdon rounded out the top three with a score of 580.
TCU will return to action on Oct. 28 when they host Alaska-Fairbanks.
