FORT WORTH, Texas - After a 2008 Western National Championship win this past April, the Horned Frogs are looking forward to defending their title.
TCU heads to Lubbock this Friday to compete against Texas Tech and the Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M. Due to Texas Tech's non-varsity stature, the matchup between the Frogs and the Red Raiders will be a scrimmage.
This will be the first ever meeting between TCU and West Texas A&M.
"The Lady Buffs are a bit of an unknown as far as competition goes, we have not faced them before. This is a great season opener for us because both WTAMU and Texas Tech have very strong IHSA programs and have had teams for a very long time," Coach Gary Reynolds said.
A couple of riders are scheduled to make their first-ever appearances for the western team, including Kelsey Huffman and Courtney Chown.
The hunt seat team will also feature a handful of newcomers, the goal of Coach Reynold's is to get experience for the young riders. Taylor Frederick, Victoria Lee and Stephanie Schuepbach will all make their first career start for the Frogs.
"It will be a good game and will also give us a chance to get a game under our belts before we go to Baylor to face three schools that were all at Nationals last year," Reynolds said.
Competition begins Friday at 10 a.m. Follow the action at GoFrogs.com.
