
TCU announces May Athletes of the Month

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Athletics Department announced its student-athlete awards for the month of May on Wednesday. On the men's side, Clint Arnold was named the Male Athlete of the Month, while Joe Brown was selected as Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month. Kishelle Paul was tabbed the Female Athlete of the Month, while Valentine Derrey was named the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month.Arnold, a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, hit .452 over 16 games with seven doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI. Arnold posted a staggering on-base percentage of .514 and stole five bases in six attempts. The TCU senior earned Mountain West Conference Tournament MVP honors after going 6-for-6 with five RBI to lead the Horned Frogs in the title game.
Brown, a senior from Overland Park, Kansas, became only the second Horned Frog ever to win a league crown in the javelin at the MWC Championships. Brown followed up his performance at the conference tournament by setting a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 224 feet at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Brown automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships with his performance in the javelin event.
Derrey earned recognition after firing a TCU tournament record 210 to place third at the NCAA Regional in Austin. Included in the 6-under par 210 was an opening-round 67, which tied her own TCU mark. The Paris, France, native helped lead the Frogs to a fourth-place finish at the Central Regional as TCU earned its first back-to-back appearance at the NCAA National Championship since 1999-00. Derrey received second-team All-America honors from the National Golf Coaches Association while being a third-team All-American by Golfweek.
Paul, a junior from Marietta, Ga., recorded a season-best time of 57.81 to win the 400-meter hurdles at the Midwest Regional. Paul also earned third-place honors in the 100-meter hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 13.84. At the Mountain West Conference Championships, Paul set a new complex record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.84 to place second.
