
Fall Review of 2008-09 TCU Equestrian

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Horned Frogs finished fall competition at 4-3, following a victory over No. 2 Georgia on Nov. 22. In the fall, TCU also downed No. 9 South Carolina, No. 10 New Mexico State and West Texas A&M.
The western team went 5-2 during fall competition after defeating Georgia's western team, 6-4. In that match, Carrie von Uhlit won points in both horsemanship and reining while earning MVP honors in reining. In the western division, the Frogs also upended West Texas A&M, Fresno State, New Mexico State and South Carolina.
The western squad was led by Chloe Baker, Courtney Chown, Kelsey Huffman and Von Uhlit. In horsemanship, Baker went 6-1 in the fall and earned MVP honors in the event against Georgia. Chown took home the 2008 Willis Invitational Tournament MVP in horsemanship after earning MVP honors in the fall against Fresno State and New Mexico State. Huffman competed in both horsemanship and reining and went a combined 9-3 in the fall. Huffman tallied two MVP titles, one against West Texas A&M after scoring a 77.5 in horsemanship. Von Uhlit led TCU with the most wins after going 11-3-1 in the fall. The senior nabbed four MVP crowns in reining, including one against South Carolina after scoring a 77 in the event. Ashton Mickunas and Jennifer Neel each went 3-2 in reining in the fall.
In the hunt seat division, sophomore Tassie Munroe earned three MVP titles in equitation over fences, which included the 2008 Willis Invitational MVP in the event. Taylor Frederick grabbed two MVP titles in equitation over fences after scoring an 81 against New Mexico State. Jessica Hagen went 4-2 in the fall in equitation on the flat after scoring a 78 against Texas A&M. Sophomore Lauren Quiroz earned MVP honors in equitation on the flat after scoring a 76 against West Texas A&M. Carrie von Uhlit also competed in equitation over fences and went 3-1 in the fall. Against Georgia, Von Uhlit scored an 82 to earn a point in the event for the Frogs.
In the spring, the Frogs begin competition when they play host to Delaware State Jan. 30 and Sacred Heart on Feb. 7. The following weekend TCU makes its third annual trip to Fresno, Calif., for the Best of the West Tournament. The schools scheduled to compete in the tournament are Fresno State, South Dakota State and Tennessee-Martin. Following their trip to Fresno, the Frogs compete in Dallas in a head-to-head match with SMU on Feb. 21. TCU faces New Mexico State for the second time this season when they play host to the Aggies on Feb. 28. Regular season competition wraps up on March 8 when TCU plays Oklahoma State in Mansfield.
The Varsity Equestrian National Championships are scheduled for April 17-18 in Waco, Texas.
