FORT WORTH, Texas - The 2007-08 TCU Equestrian squad was recognized for its hard work at the Oct. 4 Horned Frog football game against San Diego State.
In just its second year of competition, TCU won the 2007-08 Western National Championship after beating No. 2 Georgia in the final round.
Led by Carrie von Uhlit and Ashton Mickunas, the Horned Frogs defeated Georgia in a nailbiter finish. Mickunas scored a crucial point in reining for the Frogs in helping them top the Bulldogs.
TCU made history in the inaugural season being the youngest team in NCAA history to make it to the finals so quickly.
The Frogs lost Kindel Huffman, Jessica Bailey and Caitlin Sewell. In her last season, Huffman earned the most MVPs of the team with 11.
TCU returns veteran senior Carrie von Uhlit, Tassie Munroe and Ashton Mickunas. Freshmen Courtney Chown, Taylor Frederick and Victoria Lee have shown their talents in the first few matches of the 2008-09 season. At the Willis Invitational, Chown received tournament MVP honors in horsemanship.
The Frogs look to defend their title this year with the 2008-09 home-opener on Oct. 24. TCU will take on South Carolina at the Fieldstone Park Equestrian Facility located in Mansfield, Texas.
