FORT WORTH, Texas- TCU has announced that Carrie von Uhlit has been selected to compete in the National Reining Horse Association Derby, May 19 in Oklahoma City. The NRHA Derby, which features 12 riders from around the nation will feature Von Uhlit along with only four other members of Varsity Equestrian, which is the division that TCU competes in.
Other riders from Varsity Equestrian include: Katie Bohr (Oklahoma State) Sara Weller (Kansas State) and Maddie Williams (Texas A&M).
The honor is another addition to an impressive list Von Uhlit has compiled this year. During TCU's inaugural season she achieved honors on the local as well as the national stage.
Nationally Von Uhlit was the only rider in the nation to finish undefeated in horsemanship as well the only rider to receive MVPs in both the English and Western events. In April she achieved the high score in both the reining and horsemanship events during the first round of the Western National Championship.
Locally Von Uhlit earned the honor of TCU Equestrian MVP at the TCU Spring All Sports Banquet after holding a team high for points earned with 16.
"We are very excited about this," TCU head coach Gary Reynolds said. "Carrie has worked extremely hard this year, and this is big for her and for TCU."
