TCU falls in regular season finale

FORT WORTH, Texas-The TCU Equestrian team competed in its final regular season game Saturday, at Fieldstone Park in Mansfield against South Carolina. The Lady Frogs fell to the team they will face at nationals, 12-6.What was encouraging was how close the Western events were. TCU won the horsemanship event 3-2, in which Chloe Baker earned MVP honors with South Carolina winning the reining event by the same score. The raw scores were extremely close with South Carolina getting the edge 645.5-643.5. Nonetheless, the Frogs now have an idea about just what it will take to get over the hump against the Gamecocks in Waco.
"We now know what to work for, since we've seen our opponent," Carrie von Uhlit remarked.
TCU head coach Gary Reynolds wasn't thrilled with the outcome, but like Von Uhlit, can see the bigger picture.
"Today wasn't our best day, but we worked hard," Reynolds said. "We've got a mark on what we need to work for the nationals."
South Carolina proved why it is the defending national champions in the Hunt Seat division as it improved its record in Hunt Seat to a perfect 10-0. In Equitation over the Fences the Gamecocks swept the event 4-0 with their lowest score being an 85 out of 100. In Equitation on the Flat, South Carolina won 3-1, to compile a total score in the two Hunt Seat events of 7-1.
For TCU, Kat Rhode picked up her first MVP of the season in Equitation on the Flat, with a score of 73. Caitlin Sewell picked up the lone TCU point in the Hunt Seat events with a score of 82 in Equitation on the Flat. In the event prior, Equitation over Fences, Sewell had earned a score of 85, but came up just short against her Gamecock counterpart.
"I'm really proud of how I rode,[in Equitation on the Flat]," Sewell said. "I really concentrated on hitting all my marks and making every stride to pick up the extra points."
TCU and South Carolina will meet again at 8 a.m. on April 18, when the horsemanship event kicks off. All action can be followed on gofrogs.com
