A first half review of the 2007-08 equestrian season

FORT WORTH, Texas-As the TCU equestrian team takes its holiday break, GoFrogs.com provides a look back at the first half of the season for the second-year program, there is reason for optimism around the TCU stables entering the spring.
Coming off a national championship bid last season in the Western division, this year's TCU Western squad has proved even more dominant than last. The Frogs are 7-0, earning wins over SEC teams such as Georgia, South Carolina and Auburn, as well Big 12 opponent Baylor and Stephen F. Austin, whom TCU has defeated twice through the team's first seven contests.
Individually, the Western team has been dominated by the duo of Carrie von Uhlit and Kindel Huffman, who are a combined 12-1 in horsemanship. Huffman, who is 7-0, owns the top average on the team in the event with a 74.00. Von Uhlit, who is 5-1, owns the second-best mark in the event with a 72.75. Von Uhlit has also combined with Jennifer Neel to go 10-4 in the reining, with each rider being 5-2.
One of the highlights of the first half occurred during the Frogs' home opener as Huffman set the school record for highest score in an event with a 91 in Equitation on the Flat against Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 6). Huffman also became the only Frog in school history to record two MVPs in the same game, earning the honors in both Equitation on the Flat and Horsemanship. She owns five of the Frogs' 14 MVP honors on the season.
In the Hunt Seat division, the Frogs have been led by their new class of freshmen. Leading the way has been Jessica Hagen, who is 5-1 in Equitation on the Flat. Hagen is not the only freshman who has stepped up, as Tassie Munroe has boasted a 4-3 record in Equitation over Fences, including her first career MVP during the Fall Tournament in Waco.
TCU earned its first-ever team win in the Hunt Seat against Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 6) as it won the tie-breaker, 584-563, after finishing deadlocked in total points 4-4.
As the second half of the season approaches, the Frogs will look to improve upon their Hunt Seat standing, as well as continue their Western dominance, in search of the program's first national championship.
