FORT WORTH, Texas - Georgia Tech announced today that the school is postponing the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga., due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Ivan along the southeast coast. The TCU Horned Frogs, who are scheduled to play in the tournament, will still compete in the event at The Farm Golf Club, which will now be held from Nov. 5-7.
The Horned Frogs, rated 17th in Golf World's and 27th in Golfweek's preseason polls, had an impressive season opener this weekend, placing second among 15 teams at The Ridges Intercollegiate. Four TCU golfers, junior Colby Beckstrom (T-7th), junior Drew Pigg (T-10th, senior J.J. Killeen (T-20th) and freshman Franklin Corpening (T-20th), earned top-20 finishes at the tournament.
TCU will next be in action at the PING/NCAA Preview at the Caves Valley Golf Course in Baltimore Md., from Sept. 26-27. The top 10 teams from the final 2004 Golfweek rankings, including No. 10 TCU, earned automatic berths into the 15-team field. The Preview is held annually at the same course as the NCAA Championships. The 2005 NCAA Championships will be held June 1-4 at Caves Valley.
