Swimming Frogs Smash Records at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas (Dec. 6, 2000) -- The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams had a busy three-day weekend as the two teams competed in the University of Texas Invitational in Austin. Eight school records were established during the event, seven by the women and one by the men. Against stiff competition, the men placed ninth among 12 teams, while the women finished in the 12th position out of 14 schools.
TCU junior Jamie MacCurdy had an outstanding meet, as she set three individual school records and one relay mark. Her times of 2:03.98 in the 200 individual medley, 1:52.44 in the 200 freestyle and 2:02.10 in the 200 backstroke all smashed Horned Frog marks. Also during the event, MacCurdy boasted an NCAA consideration time of 4:21.39 in the 400 individual medley.
In addition, MacCurdy was on one record-setting relay, as the 400 medley relay team consisting of junior Marisa Schenke, freshman Jamie Robinson, senior Heather Vance and MacCurdy posted a time of 3:49.89.
Robinson, who was named WAC swimmer of the week, set school marks in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.43) and the 200 breaststroke with an NCAA consideration time of 2:17.89. She also competed on the 200 medley relay team with Schenke, Vance and freshman Ashleigh Bastak that touched the wall at a school-record clip of 1:45.39.
On the men's side, sophomore Aaron Ewert broke his own Horned Frog record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.63. In addition, junior Scott Adkins made two NCAA consideration standards (:56.13 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:01.68 in the 200 breaststroke) and became the second-fastest breaststroker in TCU history behind NCAA All-American Jason Flint.
The Horned Frogs next compete in the TCU Classic, a six-team event held in the Rickel Center on January 12-13. Prior to that, the team goes on a week-long training trip to Colorado in early January.
