FORT WORTH, Texas (Dec. 6, 2000) -- TCU freshman Jamie Robinson has been named the Western Athletic Conference swimmer of the week for her part in the Horned Frogs record-breaking performance at the Texas Invitational held December 1-3.
Over the weekend, Robinson rewrote individual TCU women's swimming records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and also swam legs on the record-setting 200 and 400 medley relay teams. In all, the TCU women set five new school standards at the three-day meet.
In addition to being a school record, her time of 1:03.43 in the 100 breaststroke also proved to be a NCAA conditional qualifying mark. Robinson posted a school-best mark of 2:17.89 in the 200 breaststroke, shattering the old mark by over two seconds.
The 200 medley relay squad of Marisa Schenke, Robinson, Heather Vance and Ashleigh Bastak touched in 1:45.39, just eclipsing the team-record time set last season. In the 400 medley relay, the team of Schenke, Robinson, Vance and Jamie MacCurdy raced to a program-best time of 3:49.89, almost two full seconds faster than any TCU combination in history.
Robinson's times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke currently rank fourth and fifth, respectively, among the conference's season top-20 times.
She becomes the first TCU men's or women's swimmer to claim the weekly award this year. Also nominated for the WAC honor were Hawai'i sophomore diver Sarah Farr, Nevada junior Rachel Gregorn and SMU sophomore Sarah Chandler.
