Keith Smith joined the TCU volleyball coaching staff in March of 2025 as an assistant coach.
Smith arrives in Funky Town after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Auburn, where he helped lead the Tigers to their best season in school history, racking up 22 wins, back-to-back 20-plus win seasons and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2023.
Mentoring the setters, Smith took Auburn’s offense to new heights. Jackie Barrett became the sixth Auburn setter to reach 1,000 assists in a single season in 2022, as she was twice recognized as SEC Setter of the Week. Barrett once again went over the 1,000 assist mark in 2023 while guiding her hitters to a .241 hitting percentage, the third-best in Auburn history.
During his time on the Plains, he was also critical in planning and conducting daily practices, including skill development, game strategy and creating scouting reports.
Prior to Auburn, Smith was an assistant coach at his alma mater Grand Canyon University. Working with the men’s team, he transformed GCU into a national powerhouse, earning 19 victories over top 15 teams, including an upset of No. 1 BYU in straight sets in 2021. GCU reached new heights, ranking as high as No. 6 in the AVCA poll and turned out five All-Americans.
An excellent recruiter, Smith also helped bring in 10 of the top 50 recruits nationally, including signing the No. 8 ranked class in the country. His coaching efforts at GCU earned national recognition as he was selected as a 2021 AVCA 30 Under 30 award winner, which highlights the top coaches around the country under the age of 30.
Smith also has experience as an assistant coach for the USA Volleyball and has worked with the National Team Development Program for six years. He coached the men’s National Team during the 2021 NORCECA Championships, a world championship qualifying event, helping Team USA place fifth. This past year, he also worked with the Women’s U21 National Team as an assistant coach for the NORCECA Continental Championships training block.
A former college setter, Smith owns the career assists record at Grand Canyon with 4,484 assists during his career. In addition to ranking first in assists in the GCU record book, Smith's 1,294 assists in 2013 rank 10th all-time in NCAA history during the 25-point scoring era.
Following his collegiate career, Smith played professionally overseas with Orion TopVolley in the Netherlands. He helped lead the team to top-four finishes in the regular season, playoffs and the national club tournament.
Smith received his bachelor's degree in sports management and his master's in business administration from Grand Canyon University.
