Julius Brown came to TCU in March 2024.
Brown joined the Horned Frogs as a senior defensive analyst before being promoted to assistant coach - nickels.
Brown was cornerbacks coach for two seasons at Washington, including its 2023 team that played in the College Football Playoff National Championship. He also spent two seasons (2021-22) at Fresno State coaching their huskies, a hybrid linebacker/safety position. During his time with the Bulldogs, which included a 10-win season in 2021, Brown was named by 247Sports as the No. 2 recruiter in the Mountain West.
Brown also coached cornerbacks at Texas Tech (2019) and Utah State (2016-18).
While Brown was in Lubbock, the Red Raiders allowed their lowest points per game since 2009. He helped guide a Utah State defense that led the FBS with 32 forced turnovers and 22 interceptions, including six returned for touchdowns, in 2018. The Aggies totaled 71 takeaways over his three seasons on staff. The 2018 Utah State team tied a school record with its 11 wins and earned a No. 21 final ranking in the Associated Press Top 25. Brown coached Jalen Davis who became just the ninth first-team All-American in Utah State history before embarking on an NFL career.
Brown worked with TCU Defensive Coordinator Andy Avalos at Boise State for two seasons (2014-15). Similar to his time at Utah State, Brown mentored a Boise State secondary that was among the nation’s leaders in interceptions, picking off 22 passes in each of his two seasons. The Broncos led the Mountain West in interceptions both years, ranking fifth nationally in 2014 and fourth in 2015. Darian Thompson earned All-America honors and was a third-round draft pick of the New York Giants. Brown also coached Donte Deayon who played five NFL seasons.
Brown had additional stops at Arkansas State (2013) and Troy (2012) as well as an initial tenure with the Broncos (2006-11). He was a graduate assistant for three seasons before being promoted to director of player personnel in 2009, under former Boise State and Washington Head Coach Chris Petersen.
A native of Stockton, Calif., Brown is a 2006 graduate of Boise State where he was a three-year starter at cornerback and led the WAC in passes defended as a senior.
Brown and his wife, Cassidy, have two daughters, Lyric and Jazzi, and a son, Kash.
