IRVING, Texas – After a 4-0 week and a six-spot rise in the national rankings, No. 9 TCU volleyball's Evan Hendrix and Samara Coleman received Big 12 Weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Hendrix was named offensive player of the week, while Coleman collected rookie of the week laurels.
It marks the second straight week that a Horned Frog has been recognized by the Big 12 as Sarah Sylvester took home defensive player of the week honors on Sept. 9. For Hendrix and Coleman, it is the first weekly conference award of their career.
Hendrix led the Big 12 with 58 total kills on the week, averaging 4.46 per set (eighth). The sophomore outside hitter also added 34 digs, recording double-doubles in both of TCU's ranked victories. The Scottsdale, Arizona, product finished with 10 kills and 16 digs in TCU's 3-2 win over No. 8 Texas A&M (9/10), helping the Frogs take down their second top 10 opponent this season.
In the second ranked matchup of the week against No. 23 Missouri, Hendrix went off for a career-high 32 kills on a .348 clip. The Tigers couldn't slow down the high-flying outside as she posted the most kills by any player in the Big 12 this season, the most by any player in the country in a four-set match and the third-most in school history in a four-set match at TCU.
Coleman, just a true freshman, had a coming out party against No. 8 Texas A&M, finishing with a career-high 19 kills on 35 swings (.457). It took just two sets for the highly-touted rookie to surpass her previous best of eight kills as she lit up the Aggie defense.
No. 9 TCU travels to Austin for a midweek matchup with No. 2 Texas on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Gregory Gym. First serve is set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
