Former Horned Frog set to join TCU for the 2025-26 Campaign
FORT WORTH – Will Stein, a former four-year standout for the TCU men's tennis team, is set to join the women's tennis staff as an assistant coach, head coach Lee Taylor Walker announced Friday.
"My first semester as head coach at TCU, Will was a senior captain on the men's NCAA Final Four team of 2015," Walker said. "It was incredible to see him lead a group of veterans combined with young talent in working hard for those fantastic results.
"There's probably not a bigger TCU Tennis advocate than Will Stein. Will and his wife, Brooke, and their daughter, Sutton, are excited to be back with the TCU family. His gratitude for the university is incomparable. He knows firsthand what TCU is capable of, and he's joining the staff to help us reach the goals we all know are within reach. I'm excited to get started with him, and I know our players will immediately benefit from his energy, enthusiasm and work ethic."
"Will went from an underrated high school recruit to the captain of a NCAA Final Four team that changed the program culture and paved the way for a national championship," associate head coach Patrick Sullivan said. "He was an absolute warrior as a player, and nobody loves and appreciates TCU more. Will is everything that we want our program to be about, and we are excited to bring him on."
Stein most recently served as a tennis professional at River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth since 2018, delivering individual and group tennis instruction to junior and adult members differing in skill ranges. He led multiple adult USTA teams to successful playoff runs and sectional tournament appearances throughout his time with the club.
Prior to his stint at River Crest, Stein was a tennis professional at TBarM Racquet Club in Dallas from 2016-18, gaining experience coaching a diverse age range of players with varying skill sets. He prepared multiple individuals for playing tennis at the collegiate level, mentoring over 10 players who went on to receive NCAA Division I scholarships in a two-year period.
Immediately following his collegiate playing days, Stein competed professionally on the ATP Futures Circuit for a year, gaining invaluable experience in a professional environment that would allow him to go onto help him in his future coaching endeavors.
While playing on the purple courts, Stein totaled a 45-40 overall record in singles play while going 79-55 in doubles over four years. From 2012-15, he earned three All-Big 12 Doubles accolades, primarily playing at the No. 1 spot. Backing up his impressive record were Stein's leadership skills, as he was a two-time elected team captain for the Frogs.
Stein saw his best overall season during his senior campaign, tallying 23 overall victories in both singles and doubles and helping lead TCU to its first NCAA Semifinal appearance since 2001. He played primarily alongside teammate Nick Chappell in doubles for the season, and the duo went on to compete at the NCAA Individual Championships for the second consecutive year.
For the 2013-14 season, Stein saw continued success and garnered All-Big 12 Doubles Team accolades for the second year in a row. On the doubles courts alongside Chappel, the two combined for a 16-10 spring record with Stein posting an overall doubles mark of 25-14 – the most triumphs Stein recorded in a single season while at TCU.
In the 2013 dual campaign, Stein went on to become a Big 12 No. 1 Doubles Champion alongside Chappell, becoming the first Frogs at the time to achieve this feat since 1994. The sophomore secured an overall ledger of 18-5 in doubles action, ending the year winning nine of 10 matches.
During Stein's freshman year, he made an impact early with 14 overall singles wins and 13 doubles triumphs. He continuously leveled up in my facets of his game as the year went on and was even voted the squad's most improved player at the end of the season.
The Argyle, Texas, native graduated from TCU with a bachelor's degree in sociology in the spring of 2015.
