Multiple Frogs Earn Flurry of Weekly Awards

Josh Hoover, Eric McAlister and Jamel Johnson earn honors
FORT WORTH – Following Saturday's double-digit victory over SMU, Josh Hoover, Eric McAlister and Jamel Johnson earned weekly awards from multiple different outlets.
Hoover was named to the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 and earned a spot on the Manning Award's Star of the Week list. McCalister was tabbed Big 12, Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week, and Johnson rounded it out with a Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Continuing his impressive start to the 2025 season, Hoover passed for 379 yards and a career-high five touchdowns in the victory. He now ranks No. 1 nationally in passing yards per game (333.0) and touchdown passes per game (3.67).
McAlister put together one of the best wide receiver performances in program history on Saturday to lift TCU to the victory. The senior had a total of 254 receiving yards, the second most in a single game in program history. He also caught three touchdowns, which are the most by a Big 12 receiver this season. In addition, he had an impressive 145 yards after catch, and two of his touchdowns came in the fourth quarter after the Mustangs took a narrow lead.
Earning his first career conference honor, Johnson had two crucial interceptions to help secure the victory for the Frogs. Both of his interceptions came with under five minutes to go in the game and halted any potential last-minute heroics for SMU. The junior also posted six tackles, the third most on the team.
No. 24 TCU travels to Tempe on Friday to take on reigning Big 12 champion Arizona State (3-1) in the Frogs' conference opener. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. CT and air nationally on Fox. The Sun Devils are coming off a victory in Waco where they used a last-second field goal to knock off Baylor. Arizona State is also receiving votes in the AP poll.
