Horned Frog contingent includes two active players in Dussault, Woestendick
FORT WORTH – TCU men's tennis and New York City will soon become well-acquainted.
A program record four Horned Frogs, including two active members of TCU's 2025-26 roster, are set to compete at the US Open following the release of the singles and doubles draws.
Three-time TCU All-Americans Cam Norrie and Jake Fearnley commence TCU's participation on Sunday with a pair of opening round singles matches.
Cooper Woestendick then makes his Grand Slam main draw debut later in the week. The rising sophomore received direct entry after winning the USTA Boys' 18U National Championship on Aug. 9 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
The Horned Frog quartet is capped off by freshman Maximus Dussault, who is competing on the junior side of the Slam in singles and doubles.
In total, TCU will be represented by five current or former players over the course of its visit to the Big Apple. Jack Pinnington received direct entry into the qualifying singles draw.
Norrie's draw puts him in the role of spoiler to the home faithful in the early stages. He draws American Sebastian Korda in round one. A projected matchup with No. 28 seed Alex Michelsen awaits with a win over Korda, followed by a likely collision with Novak Djokovic in round three.
Fearnley's first round opponent is former world No. 9 Roberto Bautista Agut. The matchup marks the second straight Slam in which a TCU alum will battle the Spaniard in the opening round of a major championship. Norrie ignited his run to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in July with a four-set takedown of Agut. Fearnley, who led TCU to its first NCAA Championship in 2024, will almost assuredly meet No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev in the second round with a victory.
Woestendick is joining forces with his longtime doubles partner, fellow American Maxwell Exsted. The duo won the 2024 Australian Open Boys' Doubles Championship and received further global acclaim after winning the Traralgon Junior International doubles competition.
The doubles main draw, along with the junior championship draws, will be released in the coming days.
Norrie has rekindled some of the form that saw him arrive at the 2022 US Open as the world No. 8 and on the heels of a semifinal appearance at Wimbledon. A three-time TCU All-American from 2015-17, Norrie has reached the second weekend in the last two major championships and has risen to 36th in the ATP rankings. He holds a 41-30 all-time record in Grand Slams. Norrie notched his best finish at the US Open in 2022, as he reached the last 16.
Fearnley is partaking in the US Open for the first time and will have competed in the singles main draw of all four Grand Slams following first serve on Sunday. He is the British No. 3 behind Fearnley with a current world ranking of No. 59.
Woestendick and Dussault are two members of TCU's No. 1 ranked USA recruiting class for 2025.
Woestendick enrolled early at TCU in January. He became the third player in program history to be named Big 12 Freshman of the Year. The Kansas native produced a 28-9 combined overall record. Woestendick anchored court one in doubles and court three in singles throughout conference play.
Dussault was graded the No. 13 overall American recruit in his graduating class by The Tennis Recruiting Network. From Stuart, Fla., the lefty has played on the junior side of all four Grand Slams in each of the last two years. Dussault bears nine ITF juniors titles to his name.
All US Open matches will air live on ESPN and ESPN+ domestically.
