Kwong won 1-meter individual at USA Championships
FORT WORTH – TCU graduate Anna Kwong won the women's 1-meter individual and synchronized 3-meter at the USA Diving National Championships and Worlds Qualification meet held in Auburn, Ala.
Kwong and partner Sophia Verzyl from the University of South Carolina, tied in the synchronized 3-meter event with Bailee Sturgill and Lily Witte.
Kwong finished with 534.85 points in the 1-meter individual to win her first 1-meter national title. With the win, Kwong qualified for the 2025 World Championships in Singapore on July 26.
"It was a tough final," Kwong told USA Diving. "I'm really happy and grateful. We decided to put my (front 3 ½) in right after the prelim. I was kind of playing around with the risk versus the reward. It was definitely stressful because I missed my twister, but I was choosing to embrace with confidence and give it my all."
Kwong ended her national championship appearance with a third-place finish in the 3-meter individual and will be the first alternate for the event at the World Championships.
Later this summer, 2025 graduate David Ekdahl will compete on behalf of his national federation of Sweden at the 2025 World Championships, July 27-Aug. 1 in Singapore. He will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter individual events.
Eszti Kovacs, a freshman for TCU last season, will be competing in the women's 3-meter individual event on May 27 at the 2025 European Championships in Antalya, Turkey.
