CARLSBAD, Calif. –Sofia Barroso Sá ascended 21 spots on the leaderboard during the second round of play at the NCAA National Championships on Saturday at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa.
Barroso Sá shot one-over (73) and joined a tie for 43rd with a 36-hole score of three-over 147.
With the cut line looming, Barroso Sá is in solid shape to reach to the final round. Her score is the fourth-lowest among all individual qualifiers or players on teams not in position to . The top-15 teams and nine highest-placing individuals on non-advancing teams play a final 18 holes on Monday to determine the NCAA Individual Champion.
Barroso Sá played her final nine holes one-under (35) for the second consecutive round. Teeing off on the back nine, the junior sat two-over at the turn. She picked up birdies on holes two, five and nine. Barroso Sá was even for the day through 14 holes before bogeys at six and seven briefly offset her score.
Notably, Barroso Sá's birdie on the fifth green was the 300th in her career. She became the fourth player in program history to tally 300 career birdies. With 301 to her name at the midpoint of her final event 2024-25, Barroso Sá is 89 birdies shy of breaking Lois Lau's all-time record.
