FORT WORTH - TCU men's tennis junior Jack Pinnington has been selected as the Big 12 player of the week.
Pinnington went 3-0 this past week and paved the way for TCU to clinch the outright Big 12 Championship.
Pinnington, alongside doubles partner Cooper Woestendick, notched two ranked doubles wins over the No. 68 ranked pair Georgiev and Shimanov of SMU and the No. 25 ranked pair of Brostrom Paulsen and Miladinovic of Baylor.
The duo of Pinnington and Woestendick took down SMU's Georgiev and Shimanov with relative ease, cruising to a 6-2 win.
Pinnington and Woestendick defeated Baylor's Brostrom Paulsen and Miladinovic, 6-3 on Sunday, which helped TCU clinch a competitive doubles point.
The pair moved up 32 spots in the latest ITA rankings released today as the pair checked in at No. 40.
Pinnington gradually wore down the 39th-ranked Badenhorst in the first position to put the Frogs up 3-0. Pinnington, ranked 11th nationally, secured a 6-4, 7-6 (3) decision. Both players alternated early breaks in set one before Pinnington struck for a second time level at four games all. Trailing 4-5 and down love-40 in the second frame, Pinnington preserved all four points before forcing the tiebreaker.
Pinnington is 8-4 against ranked players this season and 42-16 in his career. He is 11-4 on the year with all matches being played on court one.
