TCU seeking eighth conference championship
FORT WORTH – The No. 5 TCU women's rifle team heads to Fort Wayne, Ind. to compete in the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships. The Horned Frogs will be seeking their third straight conference championship. The competition begins Saturday at 6:30 a.m. with smallbore followed by air rifle on Sunday at 6:15 a.m. at The X Count Range.
TCU is taking aim at its eighth PRC Championship title. The Horned Frogs have dominated the PRC, sweeping both disciplines seven times in program history. Additionally, TCU has won air rifle discipline eight times.
The Frogs have won nine individual championships between five individuals. Mindy Miles won four straight air rifle titles from 2015-18. Elizabeth Marsh was the 2018 smallbore champion and in 2020, Casey Lutz took home the air rifle crown. Stephanie Grundsoee was the 2021 smallbore and air rifle champion. At the 2023 championships, Julie Johannessen took home the air rifle title.
Last season, TCU placed four shooters in the air rifle finals, with Mikole Hogan finishing third and Katie Zaun placing fourth. Zaun also participated in the smallbore finals, finishing fourth individually.
Making the trip to compete for TCU are Marissa Fedora, Micah Hames, Christina Hillinger, Mikole Hogan, Rylie Passmore, Ziva Swick and Katie Zaun.
Competing at the championships this weekend will be No. 2 Alaska, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 8 Air Force, No. 10 Nebraska, No. 12 Ohio State and No. 16 UTEP.
TCU posted a 4,733 aggregate score in its last match at VMI, which included a season-best 2,353 in smallbore and a 2,380 in air rifle. The Frogs dominated the leaderboard in all disciplines, firing the top eight marks.
Zaun leads the team and is ranked among the top shooters in the country, sitting at No. 2 nationally in aggregate (1,188.60), No. 3 in air rifle (597.60) and No. 4 in smallbore (591.00).
Hillinger is coming off a match that saw her tie her career-high in smallbore (589) and record a 596 in air rifle. She ranks 40thnationally in aggregate (1,176.52) and 34th in air rifle (594.30).
Hogan sits in the top 30 nationally in both disciplines, ranking 38th in air rifle (594.00) and 20th in smallbore (586.50). Passmore has been consistent throughout the season, ranking 44th nationally in aggregate (1,175.89). Hames also ranks in the top 50 in air rifle average (593.00). Fedora ranks in the top 50 nationally in smallbore average (583.10). Swick boasts a top-50 air rifle average (593.29).
