It's the first honor of the season for both players.
FORT WORTH - Fresh off their stellar performances against Colorado in TCU's 35-21 victory on Saturday, quarterback Josh Hoover and linebacker Namdi Obiazor were named the Big 12 Conference's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Hoover accounted for all five of TCU's touchdowns in the win as he was 23-of-33 passing for 275 yards and four touchdowns. He added 20 yards on the ground and a score to help the Horned Frogs come back from an early 14-point deficit. The victory also makes the seventh game of four or more touchdown passes in his career, which leads all active FBS quarterbacks.
Obiazor was relentless defensively all night and racked up marks across the defensive tally sheet. The only Big 12 player with double-digit tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in Week Six, Obiazor finished TCU's win with 10 tackles and a sack to go along with his interception and forced fumble. He was part of a defensive unit that held Colorado to 217 yards passing with three interceptions. The win also marked Obiazor's fifth game of double-digit tackles and second interception of his career.
It's the second time this season that TCU has had both the offensive and defensive player of the week as Hoover and Obiazor join receiver Eric McAlister and safety Jamel Johnson from their performance against SMU.
It's the second conference weekly honor of Hoover's career as he earned the recognition on Oct. 16, 2023 following his 439-yard passing performance against BYU. For Obiazor, the award is the first of his career.
