Senior earns her third conference weekly accolade this season
FORT WORTH – After posting a hat trick in the victory over No. 14 Kansas, Seven Castain has been named the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Castain got things started in the first half against the Jayhawks, converting on a penalty kick in the 24th minute to level the game at a 1-1 ledger. The made penalty kick in the first half was the first of the season for TCU and the first since Nov. 14, 2024, when Caroline Kelly scored one against SFA in the NCAA First Round.
In the 63rd minute, Emma Yolinsky fired a shot from outside the box that was deflected by the Kansas goalkeeper. The rebound bounced out a few yards, and Castain was able to win the race and put it into the back of the net before anyone could catch up to the ball. Just over two minutes later in the 65th minute, the Draper, Utah, native struck again, this time off a rebounded save off a shot from Grace Vest that once again found Castain at the right place and time.
Sunday marked Castain's second hat trick or better performance of her career, as she scored four goals against Colorado on Oct. 5, 2024.
The Draper, Utah native now has 77 points for her career, moving into fourth in program history. Castain's career goal total has moved to 32 for her career, a mark that ranks third in program history. The senior earned her seventh, eighth and ninth goal for the season in the win.
Catch Castain and the No. 7 TCU women's soccer team in action on Thursday, Oct. 2 as they take on Colorado at 7 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
