FORT WORTH, Texas – Riding a 14-match winning streak across singles and doubles, senior Trevor Johnson was named Big 12 Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
This marks the first Big 12 weekly honor in the Las Vegas, Nev., native's career and the third this season for the team.
Johnson went 4-0 in competition last weekend as he led TCU to its third straight Big 12 title and an undefeated mark in conference action for the second-straight season. The senior is on a six-match winning streak in singles as he picked up two ranked victories over Bjoern Peterson (No. 79) of Baylor and Tommy Mylnikov (No. 124) of Texas Tech in straight sets.
Johnson is also riding an eight-match winning streak in doubles with partner Alastair Gray as the duo picked up their first win over a ranked opponent against the Baylor pair. Johnson has 15 wins in singles with seven over ranked opponents and 11 wins in doubles action.
TCU has won 12 straight matches dating back to March 8 and defeated 10 ranked opponents during the streak. The Frogs are headed to the Big 12 Championship that will be held in Austin, Texas from April 26-29 at the Texas Tennis Center. The men earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye and will face the winner of the Oklahoma State vs Baylor match on Saturday at Noon.
