FORT WORTH, Texas - On the heels of winning its third straight Big 12 title, the No. 6 TCU men's tennis team will finish up the regular season by traveling to Lubbock, Texas to take on No. 32 Texas Tech on Sunday, April 22.
The Frogs (17-3, 4-0 Big 12) and the Red Raiders (19-8, 1-3 Big 12) will have first serve at 2 p.m., at the McLeod Tennis Center.
TCU Notables
TCU is currently riding a 11-match winning streak that started on March 8 with a 6-1 victory over Penn. Nine of the victories were over ranked opponents with the Frogs clinching their third straight Big 12 regular season title with a 4-1 victory over Baylor on Thursday night. TCU became the fourth program to capture three straight regular season titles in the conference.
Alex Rybakov is leading the way in singles and doubles with the junior holding down a No. 19 ranking with a 18-5 mark on the year and wins in 10 of the last 12 matches. Rybakov is also sitting at No. 5 in doubles with Guillermo Nuñez with the duo 12-2 on the year with seven wins over ranked opponents. Alastair Gray has a No. 57 ranking in the singles poll while Trevor Johnsons (No. 69) and Nuñez (No. 91) round out the rest of the singles rankings. Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder pace the team in doubles with a 13-4 mark and a No. 70 ranking including an 10-2 record at the No. 3 spot.
Scouting the Red Raiders
Texas Tech picked up its first win in conference action last night as they upset No. 15 Texas, 4-3. The Red Raiders have picked up 18 wins this season and once had a nine-match winning streak. Tommy Mylnikov boasts the only individual ranking for Texas Tech at No. 124 in the singles poll with seven victories. Matheus Leite leads the team with 22 wins in singles, with Connor Curry and Artem Kapshuk each posting 15 victories. Jackson Cobb and Alex Sendegeya pace the team in doubles with 13 wins with three coming at the No. 1 position.
All-Time Series Records
Sunday's match will be the 45th meeting all-time between TCU and Texas Tech with the Frogs leading the overall series at 38-6. TCU has picked up the win in seven of the last eight meetings with the Red Raiders last win coming in 2016. The Frogs lead the series in matches played in Lubbock, Texas with a 12-4 record and this will be the third time playing at the McLeod Tennis Center since becoming conference foes.
