FORT WORTH, Texas - With the Big 12 regular season title on the line, the No. 6 TCU men's tennis team will welcome No. 23 Baylor for its home finale on Thursday, April 19 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Frogs (16-3, 3-0 Big 12) and the Bears (18-6, 1-2 Big 12) will begin competition at 5:30 p.m., on Thursday at the Bernard J. `Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts. The TCU Tailgate will be in Lot 14 starting at 4:30 p.m., on Thursday until one hour after the match and those in attendance can enjoy free tacos from Salsa Limon. Fans can also enjoy free popcorn from King Korn and free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., served in between doubles and singles action. The world-famous prize court will take place after doubles and is sponsored by Putt Putt Golf Fun Center.
TCU Notables
TCU is currently riding a 10-match winning streak that started on March 8 with a 6-1 victory over Penn. Eight of the victories were over ranked opponents with the Frogs remaining undefeated in Big 12 action after scoring a 4-2 victory over No. 14 Oklahoma and a 4-0 sweep of No. 11 Oklahoma State last weekend.
Alex Rybakov is leading the way in singles and doubles with the junior holding down a No. 19 ranking with a 17-5 mark on the year and wins in nine of the last 11 matches. Rybakov is also sitting at No. 5 in doubles with Guillermo Nuñez with the duo 11-2 on the year with six wins over ranked opponents. Alastair Gray has a No. 57 ranking in the singles poll while Trevor Johnson (No. 69) and Nuñez (No. 91) round out the rest of the singles rankings. Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder pace the team in doubles with a 13-4 mark and a No. 70 ranking including an 10-2 record at the No. 3 spot.
Scouting the Bears
After dropping both matches in the opening weekend of action, Baylor rebounded by scoring a 4-0 victory over No. 30 Texas Tech on Saturday. The Bears have two ranked singles players and two ranked doubles pairs with Johannes Schretter leading the way with a No. 64 singles ranking and pairing with Will Little for a No. 9 doubles ranking. Schretter has 23 wins in singles with five over ranked opponents while he and Little have posted 13 wins in doubles with another five wins over ranked foes. Bjoern Petersen sits at No. 79 in the rankings while Akos Kotorman and Constantin Frantzen round out the rankings at No. 54 in the doubles poll.
All-Time Series Records
Thursday's match will be the 55th meeting all-time between TCU and Baylor with the Frogs leading the all-time series record at 34-20. TCU has won the last two matches in 2016 and 2017 and is 17-6 all-time against Baylor in matches played in Fort Worth. Since becoming Big 12 Conference foes, the Bears lead the series at 5-2 with Thursday's match being only the third played on the Bernard J. `Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts in the series.
