FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 6 TCU men's tennis team surged from fifth to first to claim their third straight Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Attendance Race title as announced on Friday.
Highlighting a banner month for the Horned Frogs was a staggering crowd of 2,112 in an April 18 win over Texas, TCU's first win over the Longhorns since 1996. This crowd was the largest in the eight-year history of the ITA Attendance Race, topping the prior record of 2,060 on April 16, 2011 when the Tennessee men hosted Georgia.
TCU packed the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center with 5,669 fans in April alone, an average of 1,417 spectators per match. In all, the Horned Frogs played in front of 8,467 people this season. TCU fed off its big crowds, turning in a perfect 15-0 record on its home courts. The Illinois men took second overall with 6,720 viewers and Tulsa finished third with 5,947 total fans.
The 2015 ITA Attendance Race crown marks the fifth consecutive year that the Frogs have finished in the top-5, while the team also led the nation in each of the four major categories for the third year in a row - total attendance (8,467), average attendance (651), single-match attendance (2,112 vs Texas on April 18) and number of top-5 attended matches (two).
TCU will continue action at the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Team Championships on Saturday in Waco and will face No. 13 North Carolina in the quarterfinals at Noon at the Hurd Tennis Center.
