FORT WORTH, Texas - After a tough weekend at the 2015 Saint Francis/ITA All-American Championship, the TCU men's tennis team still has two singles players competing and into the qualifying draw at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Newcomer Jerry Lopez won four straight matches to advance out of the prequalifying draw and joins sophomore Trevor Johnson in the qualifying draw that begins competition on Monday.
Lopez opened the weekend by downing Jess Jones of Tennessee, 6-4, 6-1, before facing a tough match against Vasileios Stavropolous of Nebraska. The junior had to fight off two tiebreakers, but ultimately can out the winner with a 7-6(5), 7-6(3) victory.
The only set Lopez dropped all weekend came against McClain Kessler of Florida, where Lopez had to battle back after dropping the first set, 6-2. Lopez was dominant in the second set, 6-1, before claiming the match victory with a 7-5 win in the final set. On Monday morning, Lopez completed his run into the qualifying draw by defeating Chi-Shan Jao of Tulane, 6-4, 6-4.

Lopez and Johnson will start the qualifying portion of the singles draw beginning Monday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla. Lopez will face Julian Cash of Oklahoma State, while Johnson will take on Marco Nunez of Florida State. Johnson and Hudson Blake will also compete in the qualifying doubles draw that will begin on Oct. 6.
