WACO, Texas—Sören Goritzka and Cameron Nash fell in the finals of the men's doubles 'B' draw Sunday in the final day of competition at the HEB Baylor Invitational. The match completed a solid opening weekend of competition for the Horned Frogs.
Goritzka and Nash, who posted three straight victories to reach the bracket's final round, hung tough against Auburn's Tim Hewitt and Lucas Lopasso before eventually falling in the tiebreaker by a score of 9-8. The Frog duo actually served for the match victory leading by a 7-6 count, but the Tiger pairing rallied late in the match for the win.
The finals appearance ranked as one of the highlights of the weekend for a Frog squad that featured nine players in action. In addition to the doubles effort, Goritzka led TCU in singles by advancing to the quarterfinals of the men's singles 'A' draw. Slah Mbarek and Daniel Sanchez opened the tournament by taking down the nation's No. 5-ranked doubles tandem of Tim Puetz/Alex Stamchev from Auburn.
TCU returns to the courts Oct. 2-10, when it travels to Tulsa, Okla., for the D'Novo All-American Championships.
