Frogs Continue Play at Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas—Sören Goritzka led the TCU men's tennis team Saturday at the HEB Baylor Invitational by reaching the quarterfinals of the men's singles 'A' main draw.
The Horned Frog sophomore opened the day by posting a win over Baylor's Luis Grangeiro by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 in a three-hour marathon match to reach the quarters. Following the victory, Goritzka was eliminated from the competition by Texas A&M's Colin Hoover in the round of 8, 6-3, 6-1.
Despite the loss, Goritzka will continue his weekend in the final day of competition in the men's doubles 'B' draw after posting a pair of wins with senior teammate Cameron Nash to reach Sunday's final round. The pairing downed A&M's Calon Alpar/Kayvon Karimi, 8-6, in the quarters prior to defeating UT Arlington's Mindavgas Celedinas/Lucas Leppin in the semis, 8-5. Goritzka and Nash will aim for the 'B' draw doubles title Sunday.
Other Frogs in action Saturday included junior Slah Mbarek, who reached the quarters of the men's singles 'A' consolation draw prior to suffering elimination. Mbarek took down New Mexico State's Matej Stakne by a count of 6-2, 6-2 before dropping a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Texas A&M's Niall Angus in the quarterfinals.
In addition to teaming up with Goritzka in doubles, Nash also reached the quarterfinals of the men's singles 'B' consolation bracket. He opened singles action Saturday by posting a 6-0, 6-4 win over Baylor's Chris Gordon, but fell to New Mexico State's Armando Morales in the ensuing round, 7-6(5); 6-7(5); 10-6.
