The TCU men's tennis team received four spots in the Campbell's/ITA preseason rankings, announced Friday. Among the group of ranked Horned Frogs included sophomore Slah Mbarek and junior Emanuel Brigui in singles.
Mbarek earned TCU's highest preseason singles ranking at No. 55, while Brighiu came in at No. 68. Mbarek finished his freshman season with a No. 93 national singles ranking in 2008-09. Brighiu also was a mainstay in the ITA rankings for much of the year as a sophomore despite dealing with an injury for much of the spring dual match season.
TCU also placed two tandems in the preseason doubles ratings. Topping the list for TCU was Brighiu and fellow junior Christopher Price at the No. 38 position. Brighiu reached the NCAA Doubles Championships last spring while pairing with former teammate Adrian Simon.
Joining Brighiu and Price in the national doubles listing this fall are Mbarek and freshman Marius-Adrian Cirstea at No. 44. Mbarek, in addition to being TCU's highest-ranked singles player at the conclusion of last spring, topped the Frogs with a 16-2 doubles record.
TCU opens the fall tournament season Sept. 25-27 at the HEB Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas.
