Frogs Set to Open Fall Tourney Season in Waco

FORT WORTH--The TCU men's tennis team unwraps the fall tournament season this weekend, when it travels to Waco, Texas, for the annual HEB Baylor Intercollegiate Invitational. The event will be hosted by the home Bears Friday through Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center.
This weekend's appearance marks the fourth straight season the Frogs have opened fall tournament action at the Baylor Invite. This year's field once again is loaded with several strong challengers. Fourteen players ranked among the ITA's preseason national singles rankings are scheduled to compete, as well as three rated doubles tandems.
The tournament will consist of two 64-player singles draws, flights A and B, as well as 32-team doubles draws in both flights A and B. There will be a consolation bracket for flights A and B singles.
Twenty-three schools have registered more than 110 student-athletes to compete in this weekend's tournament, including: Air Force, Arkansas, Abilene Christian, Baylor, Denver, New Mexico State, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Rice, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-CC, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UL-Lafayette, UNLV, Texas, UT-Arlington, UT-San Antonio, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
Among the Frogs scheduled to compete are two players who received national preseason singles rankings in sophomore Slah Mbarek (No. 55) and junior Emanuel Brighiu (No. 68). TCU also has a pair of rated doubles teams in Brighiu and junior Chris Price (No. 38) and Mbarek and freshman Marius-Adrian Cirstrea (No. 44).
Joining TCU's entries in the singles draw are three players who were ranked among the nation's top-22 players in the preseason: Oklahoma State's Oleksandr Nedovyesov (No. 1), Wisconsin's Moritz Baumann (No. 19) and Rice's Bruno Rosa (No. 22). Ranked doubles duos include Wisconsin's Baumann and Marek Michalicka (No. 6), Baylor's Maros Horny and Jordan Rux (No. 25) and Oklahoma's Andrei Daescu and Ionut Beleleu (No. 39).
