
Frogs Begin ITA Texas Regional Saturday

FORT WORTH—The TCU men's tennis team travels to College Station, Texas, this weekend for the 2009 Wilson/ITA Texas Regional Championships at Texas A&M's George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Competition begins Saturday, Oct. 24, and runs through Tuesday, Oct. 27.
The Texas regional tournament serves as one of 12 nationwide qualifiers for the 2009 Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which will be held Nov. 5-8 at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. The singles and doubles champions from each regional will earn automatic berths to national indoors.
TCU will be joined by 12 other schools competing in College Station this weekend, including: Baylor, Lamar, Prairie View A&M, Rice, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT Arlington, UT Pan American and UT San Antonio.
The Horned Frogs will feature eight student-athletes in action, with each competing in both singles and doubles: juniors Emanuel Brighiu (No. 68 national ranking), Paul Chappell, Cameron Nash, Zach Nichols and Christopher Price; sophomore Slah Mbarek (No. 55 national ranking); and freshman Santiago Centeno and Marius-Adrian Cirstea.
The Frogs will team up in the following pairs for doubles play: Brighiu/Mbarek, Nichols/Price, Centeno/Chappell and Cirstea/Nash.
First serve on Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25, is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Monday, Oct. 26, followed by the finals on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
