TULSA, Okla. - TCU men's tennis players Kriegler Brink and Cosmin Cotet both won their opening round matches in the qualifying draw of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships on Monday at the Case Tennis Center.
"I'm very pleased to have two guys in the second round of the qualifying draw in such a talented field," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "Things are going really well so far this season."
Brink, a junior from Gauteng, South Africa, won his fourth consecutive straight sets match of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 24-32 Marc Rocafort of Middle Tennessee State. Brink won three matches in the prequalifying draw on Saturday and Sunday to advance to the qualifying round.
Cotet, the qualifying draw's No. 7 seed, cruised past Winthrop's Vinicius Bortolatto with a score of 6-4, 6-0 in his first action of the tournament.
Brink and Cotet need two more wins to advance to the main draw of the All-American Championships. Cotet, ranked No. 54 nationally, came within one match of the main draw last season.
Round two of the qualifying draw will take place on Tuesday, as well as the doubles qualifying draw, where TCU newcomers Zach Nichols and Adrian Simon will team up. Brink and Cotet will compete in the doubles main draw beginning on Wednesday.
