
Men's tennis closes out ITA Regionals play

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The TCU men's tennis team concluded its play at the ITA Regionals on Saturday night. The doubles team of Rafael Abreu and Jacopo Tezza advanced to the quarterfinals round competition on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
"I thought our guys played well this weekend", states TCU coach Joey Rive. "We had some tough matches, but overall we played well and I am pleased with the play of everyone".
Abreu and Tezza defeated the Texas A&M team of Marcus Lunt and John Nallon (8-6) along their way to the quarterfinals. The Horned Frog duo then defeated a tough Texas Tech squad that consisted of Michael Breler and Dimitrio Martinez (8-5). In their final match, Abreu and Tezza fell to Michael Venus and Travis Helgeson (8-3).
"Jacopo (Tezza) and Rafa(el) (Abreu) played well throughout the weekend", explains Rive. "They met a tough team from Texas that is playing extremely well right now".
In singles play, Tezza and Abreu both advanced to the round of 32.
The Frogs will begin the 2006 Spring season on Jan. 20 when they head to Houston, Texas to compete in the Rice Invitational.
