Gordon Falls in Finals of Baylor Intercollegiates

WACO, Texas (September 30, 2001) -- Junior Toni Gordon of the TCU men's tennis team put up a valiant effort against 70th-ranked Andy Leber of Texas-Arlington Sunday afternoon at the Baylor Intercollegiates in Waco, Texas, but lost the match in a third set tiebreak. Gordon won the first set 6-4, but dropped the next two 6-1, 7-6 to fall to 0-3 against Leber for his career. The Spain-native concluded the tournament with a 5-1 mark to begin the 2001-02 season.
TCU head coach Joey Rive said after Gordon's match, "Toni improved his game a lot over the summer and it showed during the tournament. He's in better shape now than he's ever been and he'll continue to play well this fall."
The Frogs' next stop this fall will be Stone Mountain, Georgia, where they will compete in the first leg of the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) grand slam at the ITA All-American Championships. The tournament will begin with pre-qualifying rounds on October 6, with the main draw concluding on October 14.
